Epistemic Closure is Real

And "Morning Coffee" is a prime example.

No it is not!

The left and the left right continue to obfuscate the true ideology of Conservatives.

We want a smaller, less intrusive government which spends less money.

Thats it! Yes there are social issues and yes the right has at times wrapped its arms around religion to some discomfort, but I would rather have a country full of hypocritical religious folks rather than one full of dependent citizens.

We say: Spend less money. Your side talks and dances around the issue putting even more camels noses under the tent (health care).

We are just fine.

The Good Doc lives the Closure. It is his warm, safe place.

Republican conservatives - as distinct from Libertarians - are living the life of hypocrisy and contradiction. They complain about deficits, but renege on pledges to vote for the Debt Commission in the Senate. Their consistent track record is one of exploding deficits through supply side tax cuts.

If conservatives were honest, they would acknowledge that taxes must go up substantially merely to deliver on existing promises. Even if the retirement age is raised to 72, we have a huge gap between spending and revenues.

If the priority is maintaining or lowering tax rates, honest conservatives will argue for the elimination of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security - as well as many other programs. That is the only way to balance the budget absent significant tax hikes.

If you were wondering why Jim, Hags & Riegel would never specify their budget cuts as the path to fiscal rectitude, now you know. It can't be done without wholesale elimination of programs that 80% of Americans support.

So - they live on platitudes and dress up in 18th century costumes while offering no real solutions. They demand that we cut taxes and reduce the deficit. They scream about the loss of our freedoms while supporting laws requiring that we carry our papers. Finally, my favorite: "Keep the government's hands off my Medicare!"
