Greatest Deliberative Body in the World

It would be great if the Republicans in the Senate (and the House for that matter) were really willing to work on issues. I am a believer in the idea of better governance through compromise, but when one side will not compromise at all, when it has to be all their way all the time, then that is not something that is available. When you are governing a nation of 300 million, you can only wait for reasonableness and patriotism ahead of political gain for so long before you have to act on the reality in front of you. That time has come.

The Republicans in the Senate are not acting in a collegial manner. They are willing to outright lie and distort on some issues of Health Care Reform. They are not exhibiting wise judgment or sage consideration. They are acting out of craven political interest and frankly against the interest of people who need insurance reform. In the last two months alone, they have filibustered or threatened to do so 40 times. That is far more than most two year Congresses have seen in our history, and it is clear that this is just the start not the end of this practice.

It is time for the Democratic Senators to give up their lies about where they work. Senators, you do not work in the Greatest Deliberative Body in the World. If you ever did those days are long gone. The Republicans do not view you as colleagues; they view you as the enemy. They will not act in good faith. They have made a political calculation that the good of the Republican party and its electoral future outweighs the good of the American people.

This is a hard truth. It always is hard when some one points out that you are fatter than you think or that you are just a cog in a big machine and if you were replaced today almost no one would notice.
It is a hard thing to understand that the Senate of the United States is not some magisterial club, but the playground of uninformed and ideological hard cases. However, you still have a job to do, and it is an important one. Letting the lies that make your life easier prevent you from doing that job would be the saddest part of this sorted mess. Pass the reform, don't let no win.

Yo Terry!

They are willing to outright lie and distort on some issues of Health Care Reform.

Really? Name one. Don't throw bombs without ammunition.

You mean they should accept just a little Socialism, because it would never grow, right?

Drop the code word SOCIALISM it is not working as pointed out in lot's of other posts, many countries have health care and are not socialists.
Lie about abortion, lie about portobility, lie about government control, lie about death squads, please tell me when to stop Jim i'm getting dizzy.

We are talking about a government takeover of health care...right? Looks like a duck and walks like a duck...it is a duck.

Lie about abortion,

Ummm Terry, the Democratic Rep, who would not sign on unless the fed funds for abortion were removed from the bill? That is in the Senate bill? That Rep, who may hold up the whole process? So, fed funds for abortion is in the bill and in general supported by the Democrats, so you really can't say that "abortion" is a lie, since, you know....its a big part of the discussion.

lie about portability,

Lie? About what? Who is against increased portability, the lack of which is generally a outcome of government intervention in the process. Exactly how are the Republicans lying about portability?

lie about government control,
Ummm...the government wants to take over health care and is the stated goal of the left, some in fact are outraged by the lack of a public option, which this bill will certainly open the door for and at least IS PART OF THE DISCUSSION AND NOT "A LIE"

lie about death squads,

Ummm...how exactly is the government going to control costs when everything is free? Since you have decided that a limited product is a right (in case you did not realize, that is what your party is saying) how else are you going to limit costs when "everyone" is covered? You will need to limit access to services, much as other countries with SOCIALIST health plans do now.

please tell me when to stop Jim i'm getting dizzy.

I would imagine that such nonsense would make one dizzy.

and let's for a moment talk about pre-existing conditions.

Now, without pre-existing condition evaluations, harsh as they may be, there is no such thing as risk. And without risk, there is no insurance.

Why buy insurance if you cannot be excluded? Just wait, so what is being proposed is the death of insurance.

Now remember Terry, as I am one on the front lines, the only way to get costs under control is to get patients skin in the game.

Everything being proposed is exactly the opposite.

For the "o" to attack the insurance industry is nuts. These are big companies which employ lots of folks and what he is proposing is their complete elimination.

Terry, thinking with your emotions will make you very dizzy. Be careful.

We are talking about a government takeover of health care...right? Looks like a duck and walks like a duck...it is a duck. NO - IT IS NOT A GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER AND IT IS NOT SOCIALISM. THERE WILL SIMPLY BE NEW RULES OF THE ROAD - NO LONGER BY AND FOR DOCTORS/PHARMA/INSURANCE CO'S.

IT IS A BOGUS ISSUE - SHAME ON STUPAK - HE IS TRYING TO USE HEALTH CARE REFORM AS LEVERAGE TO FURTHER RESTRICT ABORTION, NOT MAINTAIN STATUS QUO.

lie about portability,

Lie? About what? Who is against increased portability, the lack of which is generally a outcome of government intervention in the process. Exactly how are the Republicans lying about portability? THEY ARE IMPLYING THAT WE WILL ALL LOSE OUR PREFERRED INSURANCE PLANS AND PROVIDERS. IT IS A LIE.

***IT IS A LIE****
lie about death squads,

Ummm...how exactly is the government going to control costs when everything is free? Since you have decided that a limited product is a right (in case you did not realize, that is what your party is saying) how else are you going to limit costs when "everyone" is covered? TO THE EXTENT THAT WE HAVE "DEATH PANELS" NOW, WE WILL HAVE THEM IN THE FUTURE, NO MORE, NO LESS PER THIS LEGISLATION. WE HAVE RATIONING NOW AND WE WILL GOING FORWARD - WITH A NEW SET OF CONSUMER FRIENDLY AND RATIONAL RULES.

please tell me when to stop Jim i'm getting dizzy.

THERE MUST BE A DUAL MANDATE - YOU CANNOT REQUIRE INSURANCE COMPANIES TO TAKE EVERYBODY IF EVERYBODY IS NOT REQUIRED TO BUY INSURANCE, THUS THE PENALTIES THAT THE GOP CRIES ABOUT. ULTIMATELY, WE WILL HAVE UNIVERSAL COVERAGE AND THIS LEGISLATION IS THE CAMELS NOSE UNDER THE TENT - THANK GOD.

Now remember Terry, as I am one on the front lines, the only way to get costs under control is to get patients skin in the game.

I AGREE WITH THAT - SIMPLE LEGISLATION WHICH IS NOT CONTRADICTED BY THIS LEGISLATION AT ALL.

Everything being proposed is exactly the opposite.

UTTERLY FALSE COMMENT.

For the "o" to attack the insurance industry is nuts. These are big companies which employ lots of folks and what he is proposing is their complete elimination.

OBAMAS PLAN INCORPORATES OUR INSURANCE SYSTEM AND REQUIRES THAT WE ALL BUY THEIR PRODUCT. HOW ON EARTH IS THAT THEIR COMPLETE ELIMINATION? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT? THIS PLAN GROWS THE HEALTH INSURANCE BIZ PER SE.

Terry, thinking with your emotions will make you very dizzy. Be careful. LIKEWISE, DOC.

Really, not a government takeover? From the party who wants a single payer option (read government option.

They are going to mandate something with no chance of success and the only alternative is complete government control. Again, do the tanks have to roll in for you to declare Communism?

IT IS A BOGUS ISSUE - SHAME ON STUPAK - HE IS TRYING TO USE HEALTH CARE REFORM AS LEVERAGE TO FURTHER RESTRICT ABORTION, NOT MAINTAIN STATUS QUO.

Dork, the post was about the Republicans lying about abortion, where Mr. spooky, exactly did they lie?

The bill will further remove the consumer for the responsibility for their health care and remove risk from the equation. Any fool can see that down the road, in a very short period of time, the government, which will be "backing" care, will need to limit the access care.

All those non-socialist countries (which are in fact socialist) that you reference, restrict care with Canada and England as prime examples.

It is free but bad.

The American people are rejecting this bill, this process, this party and this President.

Doesn't the fact that they want this bill passed prior to facing their constiuents
