It's a question that, with growing frequency, is cutting through the passions and politics surrounding the "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act," or Senate Bill 1070.
Everybody seems to have an opinion about the immigration law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer on April 24. But not everybody has actually read it.
It turns out U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, whose Justice Department is considering legal action against Arizona over the law, had only "glanced" at it, at least as of his May 13 appearance before the House Judiciary Committee. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, a former Arizona governor who has said she would not have signed the bill, last week told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., during a hearing: "I have not reviewed it in detail. I certainly know of it, Senator."
The question about reading the bill has even been aimed at President Barack Obama, who also has not been sparing in his criticism of Arizona's law. On Thursday, the White House confirmed Obama has indeed read the legislation, which, as amended, runs fewer than 20 pages.

Hey-the bill is 10-pages long! Who has time to read such things which are some 3000 pages less than Health Care. What a read THAT was! And, you KNOW all the politicians carefully perused such important legislation. But, it now seems the Health Don'tcare bill is a windfall for corporate America. AT & T will save $1.3 billion by suspending health care for their employees & paying the legislated fine. Now, that is change even ol' sara can believe in.
Two words "Joe Arpaio"
Crazy Rich says:
I am not in favor of illegal immigration…the law is poorly written, but should be stronger..
No status for the children of illegals
No free schooling for their children
No free medical treatment
True penalties for those who over stay their visa (significant number)
Real penalties for those who employ illegals
This is a federal problem, needs to be addressed in that fashion

Jim responds to Crazy Rich:
But Crazy Rich, your party is making much about this law.
You know it seems that there is a limit to what a society can "give away", gosh, sounds kind of Conservative to me.
and Terry, Smoking Joe enforces the law, yes he has issues, but he enforces the law. Folks like him...a lot. He keeps getting elected...by a lot.
What Mr. Terry do you propose we do about the illegal immigration problem?
Is asking someone who fits a profile of someone in this country illegally to prove their citizenship wrong. And since many illegal and legal immigrants "look" the same, is this not worth the occasional inconvenience to legal immigrants or citizens to deal with this large problem?
What is your solution my bright friend?
Rich M - where did that come from?
The 14th Amendment provides that those who are born here are citizens - no qualification was added regarding parentage.
No schooling? Will society be better off if these kids are on the streets all day? Shall we intentionally create an army of illiterates? Surely, we have enough Republicans as it is. :)
In Arizona we have an effective e-check system. It would, in fact, go a long way to solving the problem if incorporated nationally.
We need reform and not of the Joe Arpaio variety.
