The Power of Iconography

Here is a thought-provoking video regarding the branding of Obama. Worth a watch, particularly in light of coming events.

All the best,

That is a very interesting video. Nonetheless, prior to the ubiquitous O, I think the GOP media/message machine absolutely smoked the Democrats over the past 20 - 30 years.

James Carville says there would be 67 Democrats in the Senate if Roger Ailes was a Democrat. I agree. You have a Republican/Tea Party ad running 24/7 on FNC at no cost to the RNC. MSNBC doesn't have Ailes or anyone like him - or anywhere near the viewers.

Karl Rove is a political genius and proved to be the difference in 2000 and 2004 (granted, anything was the difference in '00 as close as it was). The polls showed the American people favoring Democratic policies by a good 10 points, yet the Republican was sworn in each time.

Had Lee Atwater not passed away due to a brain tumor, I think GHWB would have won in 1992. Dukakis was over 10 points ahead when the GOP had their convention. Within four weeks, Bush was up a like amount and Dukakis can't get that red L off his forehead 22 years later. It is amazing what flag factory photo ops can do - not to mention Willie Horton.

I liked the branding video, however, the Dems have quite a hill to climb to overcome a much more DISCIPLINED Republican machine.
