The reason Spector is doing this is because he knows he will get hammered in the Republican primary by Toomey. I believe he will get hammered in the Democratic primary as well unless there was a backroom deal struck guaranteeing him the Democratic nomination. What ever happened to the Statesmen? All these politicians can think of is remaining in power and doing and saying whtever they need to keep thier jobs. We need term limits in this country in the worst way.

I agree re Toomey, who spoke at a fundraiser I attended this year for David Schweikert.

Specter was a moderate Republican, a rare and dying breed. He wisely left and yes - the timing was due to Toomey's footsteps.

I have always liked Specter. I expect he will frustrate the Dems as much as he did the GOP.
