THE DOMINOE THEORY 2009

Beware of cascading dominoes whether in Southeast Asia or anywhere else.
The domino theory held that if Vietnam, was split into north and south, and was united under communism, then other Asian countries, including Thailand, the Philippines, perhaps even India, would inevitably fall to communism as well, just like so many dominoes toppling.
Instead, it was communism that fell.
If Afghanistan falls to the Taliban, Pakistan will surely follow, opening a nuclear Pandora's Box to anti-American terrorists in which, in our fevered imaginations, smoking guns will once again become mushroom clouds.
Get out of Afghanistan now is my answer, it is a country of rocks, tribes, and has never been civilized. Protect our borders, our ports, and only use our precious troops when you are only prepared to use our entire arsenal to protect them.
Simply put do not send my child to fight a war that you will not use everything we have to protect him. If we can't use nuclear weapons then maybe we should think that war is not worth it.

Michael Moore was on Fox the other night and the war came down to this...are we at war or is this just a law and order issue.

Now Terry, before you prattle on, answer that question.

Because if we are at war then the goal is to win, to use our resources to change the equation and reduce the threat to our country.

If we are not at war then we must wait...wait until these evil people act again (that is what you must do with law and order issues) and bring them to justice.

However, if we are in a global war on terror, then we must do whatever it takes to defeat our enemy.

Even using your military logic-lite, we cannot safely leave Afghanistan. Our enemies, be they criminals or warriors, will re group and re attack.

Lastly, no, you also cannot hide behind Nuclear Arms. By your logic, we could never go to war to protect our country unless its eminent survival was at risk. (thank God you are not the Chief of Staff).

The left is missing the moral sanctity of hiding behind their anti-war skirts allowing them to throw irresponsible darts.

Now, Mr. Smoothie is in charge, owns the war and is finding it hard to placate all sides, especially when what he should be doing is standing firm, like his predecessor and insisting on victory.

Damn that was good.

You got the point. We should never go to war unless our emminent survival is at risk ( ala WW2 ).
To clear up another point I believe what Obama said was Afghanistan was a war of necesity, but using the word Afghanistan as a word for Osam Bin Laden since that is where he was.

He should have said getting Bin Laden is a war of necesity. This is again a war started by right thinking get the enemy who reside in Afghanistan, but now we are trying to nation build?? we have installed a crook as head of the country, and we are listening to the same military genuis's that got us in Vietnam and Iraq.

Jim to answer your question we are at war not a law and order issue. The problem is we are fighting with one hand tied behind our back.

Drop the big one in an area where Bin is hiding I don't care what country that is by the way, what are they going to do yell and scream for a while but no one is going to war with us over Pakistan, Iraq, or Iran.

We need Harry Truman right now! I am sick to death seeing these death totals everyday in the paper of our young men dying for a crooked leader of a crooked country.

Have you gone mad? We have lost 4,349 troops in Iraq over 7 years and 872 in Afghanistan through 9 years. And you want to drop a nuclear bomb? We lose 6,000 Americans a year due to medical malpractice. The highway death toll was over 34,000 last year. And you want to drop a nuclear bomb?

I can't think of a better way to invite nuclear attack than to recklessly use the weapon. What would happen to our moral authority?

How can we work towards nuclear non-proliferation if we advocate dropping nuclear bombs to save less than 1,000 American troops a year?

One can certainly advocate the use of force for reasons less significant than WWIII. Dubya's execution of the effort was terrible. Clinton effectively ended the hostilities in the Balkans through military means. Where is your sense of proportion?

Yours was possibly the worst post I have read all year...

Apparently the BDS is uncurable.

Anyway, Terry...back to you.

We are not at war with one man.

Honestly, if we wack the guy, does the "war" end?

Rich and I do not agree on much, but we do this time.

Tell the over 5000 American family's who have lost their son or daughter about your "proporionality". And please explain what victory you are going to get in Afghanastan, since the first guy we pushed in IS a crook. Come on Be serious! It's a mess get out or really win.

I read Friedman's article regarding Afghanistan. You missed the point - he isn't suggesting a prompt pull out, rather, significant attention to he corrupt regime that we are propping up.
