GOP

I would just love to get on one of those big national talk radio shows and scream (like the nutty doctor Dean did, to his credit)...I'm from the Republican wing of the Republican party.

We are not Democrats lite, we are Conservative Republicans who want limited government and personal freedom.

We keep nominating these "moderate" muddled message dopes who cannot talk their way out of a paper bag (see J. McCain).

I give the liberal wackos their due, they did not hide their intentions, nominated an ultra liberal who won.

We need to declare our principles and stick to our message, instead of letting the other side define us. What a joke that we have been portrayed as the party of intolerance.

Previously Mark lamented that we should get back to the important stuff of budgets and national safety. Mark, we whistle past the grave yard.

We have important, inclusive and relevant things to say about abortion, Gay Marriage, gun control, Welfare, immigration and a host of other issues, but if we keep nominating idiots and letting us be defined by the harshness of talk radio, then we will be a permanent minority party. Hell, we cannot even win in a Republican district in NY or AZ for that matter. Where is the party leadership?

Minimal government and personal freedom...it is that simple.

Wrong party, Jimmy. Step back and think about it. Unlike the GOP base, you are not anti-science or bible-thumping. That is an unreconcilable problem. You don't really care much about abortion or gays or any of the culture wars. Your first priorities all dovetail well with Libertarians. If personal freedom is a true priority you certainly don't stand with the GOP base.

By the way - there are pro-military Libertarians. Obviously, national defense is best handled by government. You seem to think that little else is.

Two more things -

As long as Rush + Newt are your primary spokespeople, you are in deep trouble. Say what you will, America holds antipathy for both of them.

You have a legacy that will be very hard to shed. America just experienced a GOP monopoly on power for 6 years. It was a failure that will not soon recede from memory . So - "fresh face" Eric Cantor and the like can talk all they want. They are marginalized by their party affiliation.

We will see about that. The most recent Rasmussen polls are showing that likely voters are getting really concerned about the government involvement in the economy and the amount of control they are exercising over private companies. The negatives are now solidly outweighing the positives. Now the problems in Pakistan are starting to erupt. Time to see how your boy steps up to the plate.

We will see. He inherited and awful situation at home and abroad - all over the globe. I expect he will handle it well.

At some point, probably next year, he will make a mistake. It happens. At some point we will be talking about his <50% approval ratings - it happens to everyone, even Clinton. He left office with the highest ratings of any 20th century president.
