Climate change.

A hoax?

A hoax being used to dismantle the country's economy?

A theory worth considering? Which is being used to dismantle the country's economy?

A fact?

Before you start, no one likes a dirty environment. In fact, conservative that I am, wish that gas prices would stay up (with an acknowledgement to the pain they are causing in the current economic environment, which is going to get worse) and continue to change behavior.

I do maintain that Capitalism, with regulation, is the best for our environment.

I also note that carbon exchanges are just like MBS...FOS.

And it may not be true!

I believe that everyone is in favor of having a cleaner environment however the bigger question is related to the great Gore hoax "Is mankind responsible for global warming or is mankind just a small bit player of Nature's stage?
We as a nation can conserve all we want and it is hargdly going to make a difference. You still have the Chinese and Indians who will continue to grow and spew things into the air at record rates. Listening to Nancy Pelosi talk about how we cannot drill for oil in the US because she is trying to save the planet made me want to wretch into the closest receptacle.

I am not saying I am against mankind trying to curb his pollution of the planet. However I believe that Al Gore has been the beneficiary of one of the biggest con jobs in our countries history. Did you ever consider that the Sun might possibly have something to do with climate change? http://www.spacecenter.dk/research/sun-climate/cosmoclimatology

There was an article in the June 24, 1974 Time Magazine that trumpeted the fact that scientists were saying that greenhouse gases were causing us to move into another ice age. It is clear that most of the scientists who are trumpeting global warming get their bread buttered by grants and there currently is a lot of grant money in coming up with stories that man is causing global warming. I don't see any Martians driving in SUVs. Jupiter, Venus, Neptune and Pluto are also undergoing a warming trend right now. One scientist states that the Mars warming can be attributed to a wobble in it's rotation and he uses this reasoning to dismiss the Sun as a possible cause. However he also states that the Earth also wobbles and that this causes ice age cycles without making the connection that this is the possible reason for global warming instead of mankind.

The trading of carbon offsets has been demonstrated to be plagued with fraudulent activity. Another fine example of government backed social reengineering. Unless we can get all nations to curb their emitting of greenhouse gases our activities are like spitting in the wind. I just have this sneaking suspicion that Mother Nature and major climactic cycles have a little more to do with changes in global temperature than mankind. Of course only time will prove out what is the real reason. But we as individuals surely should not be swallowing hook line and sinker that we are the only major reason for global warning. That would mean that all of the other massive climate changes that have occurred over the history of this planet would be meaningless.

Yes - man made and real. God bless Al Gore. I wish he was going to be our 44th president.

No to cap + trade for lots of reasons, including those Mark mentioned. YES to SIGNIFICANT CARBON TAXES. The good news is that we waste a lot of energy thus there is a lot of low hanging efficiencies to be harvested.

The carbon taxes offer three advantages - reducing greenhouse gases AND reducing our dependence on foreign energy sources being the first two.

The winners? Obviously, all of the alternative energies, conservation engineering and application, and natural gas.

Clean coal? To the extent that it is truly clean. Nuclear? Not until the proliferation issue is resolved.

I propose offsetting all of the carbon tax increases with revenue neutral tax reductions, thus tax cuts are the third advantage.

Whats not to like?

So Rich, no consideration otherwise? Just accept the deal, no critical thought?

What a surprise, the US is wrong and only by shutting down our economy can our evils be exhumed.

B------t, now you made me type a bad word.
